cologne’s designer’s gallery is currently showing the work of chinese artist wang jin. the artist is well known
for his performance pieces in the 1990’s. his works revolve around the theme of china’s ever-expanding
capitalist economy. jin examines this subject by looking at the clash of the old world and the new, as well as
international and chinese symbols. this is perhaps best exemplified in his series which printed U.S. banknotes
on bricks taken from the wall of the forbidden city. some of bricks were even placed back in the wall to repair
damaged spots. this show features a wide variety of his works, mostly consisting of photographs documenting
some of his performance pieces.
