cleveland based artist mark moskovitz creates artwork which recalls the way things were done in
the past. he questions the role of technology and products in contemporary society encouraging the
viewer to also reflect. ‘real work’ is a series of objects and videos which aims to reconnect modern
workers with genuine exertion. fore example, moskovitz has created a piece of gym equipment,
‘labour movement’, that instead of simulating working through weights, uses rocks and farm
equipment to recreate the ‘workout’ of the past. ‘convenience’ comments on the obsession of adding
wheels to things for our convenience. ‘universal hammer’ is the first object in the series and points
to a time when people had basic construction knowledge.
