eyebeam gallery, new yorkseptember 25 - october 25, 2008
eyebeam describes their new exhibition ‘untethered as, ‘a sculpture garden of everyday objects
deprogrammed of their original function, embedded with new intelligence, and transformed into surrealist
and surprising readymades’. from this brief but detailed description you get an idea of the objects on
display. the show features the work of 15 artists who explore the intersection of art and technology in their
work. eyebeam curatorial fellow sarah cook curated the show and aimed to reference the history of
ready-mades in art and our current concern with object obsolescence. examples of this intersection are
seen in michel de broin’s sculpture ‘dead star’ (2008), which transforms depleted batteries into an asteroid
or jooyoun paek’s not bicycle cover (2008), an inflated garbage bag designed to cover a bike.
