red bull 381 projects will be hosting a site-specific collaborative installation by toronto street artists fauxreel
and specter. the project, entitled ‘ a city renewal project’, will feature a recreated neighborhood of abandoned
storefronts inside of a large warehouse. the project’s aim was to comment on the city’s decay, ‘renewing
these dilapidated buildings as artistic monuments and documenting their history amidst the gentrified frenzy
of urban change’. on the outside of the warehouse fauxreel has mounted a fake storefront that is made of
wheat pasted graphics. inside, bus shelters, telephone booths and garbage cans recreate the city streets,
many of the objects were stolen by the artists. there are a number of other storefronts that are also wheat
pasted images taken by fauxreel of actual storefronts and signage made by spector. in addition to the
exhibition, marc & sara schiller of wooster collective will be giving a talk on saturday november 8 at the
red bull 381 projects gallery space.
