‘welcome to the land of bats’, 2008 (wood, glazed ceramic sculptures, metal, fabric)

on the 46th week of every year, the entire issue of sz-magazin (the weekly magazine of süddeutsche zeitung)
is designed by a contemporary artist. this year’s edition 46 is being designed by canadian artist marcel dzama.
to commemorate the issue, munich’s pinakothek der moderne will be displaying the issue and a collection of
the artist’s work. dzama was born in winnipeg, manitoba and moved to new york in 1996 where he lives and
works. he became well-known for his fairy-tale like drawings and has since expanded his art to include
objects, installations and videos. the exhibition will feature new works completed by the artist in the past year.
