rivane neuenschwander: suspension point
the south london gallery, londonoctober 3 – november 30, 2008
brazilian artist rivane neuenschwander wrapped up his latest exhibition this past weekend titled
‘suspension point’. the artist completely transformed the gallery with a full blown installation that added
a second floor to the main gallery. the lower level is devoid of natural lighting and filled with the support
structure for the second-floor. there is film been projected at the back of the space which is showing
a filmstrip pierced so that it projects small circles of light. there is also a faint dripping noise playing over
speakers. the source of this sound is found on the second floor, where a drip of water falls from the
ceiling into a large washing basin every few seconds. the second floor is filled with light and features
a line of holes drilled into the wall around the room’s perimeter. the dust from drilling is piled on the floor
in small mounds.
