Ignore the needling on this thread. Your work is insightful; it inspires us to grasp the formation of these great old works and unravel the mystery behind at least some of what went into their physical creation. So your more in the craft arena. Is anything wrong with that? Especially at this level. I admire your energy and attention to detail. Congratulations.

this is definitely Art, no question. and to use spools of thread as pixels of color is a great idea. after all, a tube of pre-mixed paint is no less mass-manufactured than a spool of pre-dyed thread. plus, it's not the medium one works in that determines if the work is Art. rather, it's the ideas present. i wouldn't even say this is "craft based" because its thread -- it's an optical display. and using master paintings as a source for these visual games makes perfect sense. let's not forget, many of those paintings were made using optical tools in the first place (see David Hockney's book Secret Knowledge, 2001). now we're given a chance to re-experience them through optics. well done!

I find Sperber's work clever and gimmicky but feel challenged to call her an artist in the same way I would those whose work she adapts. She upsets my notion of what I consider an artist to be. How good is that?

I love the art work and it is art wheather fine or craft it dosen't matter it is art non the less and if you can't do the same work and do it better you have no right to critisize some one else . your work is increadable and a God given talent

You should be very proud of what you do. Very few people would have the creative minds needed to think of the idea and how to execute it, not to mention the patience and dedication to follow it through! Remarkable! I won't criticize the commitment and inventiveness of these pieces. However, I do wonder at whether there is some original art from Ms. Sperber.

Very often one could mistake the discipline involved with these creations as a symptom of OCD.
This is very true of modern art that requires a great deal of repetitive application of shapes and color.
But as with those who make incredible miniatures, the eyes of the artist reveal much to us.
And we can question the sanity of some artists and have for centuries...

But there is a saying "It's the cracked ones that let the sun shine through."

Well done Ms. Sperber...
