for the third exhibition at their new chelsea location, david nolan gallery will be
showing the first major solo exhibition in the us of romanian artist serban savu.
savu is part of larger group of artists from cluj who grew up during thee overturn
of the communist regime in 1989. this group of artists, of which savu is one of the
only ones still living and working in romania, creates work in the tradition of social
realism. savu’s work depicts ordinary scene of life in romania. while seemingly
banal, these works have hidden socio-political issues at their core. this will be savu’s
second appearance at david nolangallery after the successful 2007 group show,
‘across the trees’.
