opening today at monika sprueth philomene magers gallery, london is a new exhibition
'objects on pedestals' by acclaimed swiss artists peter fischli and david weiss. the exhibition
includes a selection from the series 'rubber sculptures' (1986 - 1988), which comprises
a number of life-size black rubber casts of ordinary and commonplace objects, including
a chest of drawers, a table, a candle and a cutlery tray. the exhibition also features a number
of sculptures, all made in 2007 in unfired clay, which also depict normal and quotidian objects,
such as a shoe or a jug, although on an exaggerated scale. together, these two bodies of
work reveal the artists' ongoing fascination with the boring and absurd qualities of the everyday,
and the materiality and tactility of mass consumption. also featured are a series of clay sculptures.

'fragments of a film with a bear and a rat' is an upcoming film by fischli and weiss that
will be presented at the fondazione nicola trussardi, milan from the 16 to 22 february, 2009.
'fragments of a film with a bear and a rat' is the third chapter of a saga in which the two artists
dress from bear and giant mice to reveal the mysterious secrets and the banality of ordinary daily life.
in the new and original episode of the series, produced by the fondazione nicola trussardi,
the two characters wander back and forth in the rooms, investigating the bizarre sculptures
and images extravagant that live there. with continuous flash back and visions of the future,
the bear and the mouse are reflected in his own image, find themselves to be old and playing
with their ancestors by young people, in a continued reversal of roles.
