‘the call I’, 2008 (acrylic on panel)

josh keyes is an american artist who primarily works in painting. keyes creates narrative works that are
reminiscent of dioramas or cross-section diagrams found in vintage textbooks. using his own vocabulary
of imagery, keyes weaves the natural world with the man-made to create isolated scenes that float in
white space. these scenes are at times post-apocalyptic, showing nature reclaiming our created
environment. by fusing these possible futures with a style of realism painting, keyes evokes the imagery
of dystopian literature. while viewers may interpret the symbols in the works for their more canonical
meanings, keyes has stated that some of the objects and animals in his works have personal significance.

His work is truly remarkable.

The technique he uses to cut the earth and water to show what is living and growing is incredible.

Some inspiration from Banksy?
