golan levin: 'double-taker (snout)'

modelled after an elephant’s trunk or a giant inchworm, ‘double-taker (snout)’ is the creation of interactive
artist golan levin. the 2.5m robotic arm is disguised with a black exterior and a large googly eye on its end.
the arm responds to the presence of people outside of a museum, doing ‘double-takes’ as visitors enter.
the arm appears genuinely surprised by it viewers as levin states, ‘communicating, without words, that there
is something uniquely surprising about each of us.’ the installation uses a real-time machine vision algorithm
to govern the arm’s movement.
