australian-born artist timothy horn now lives in santa fe, new mexico where he makes his sculptures.
while horn has a diverse range of work, his latest exhibition ‘bitter suite’ at san fransisco’s de young
museum showcased his most recent material. the show featured three large scale work which showcased,
horn’s fondness for transforming historical objects in new scales and materials. the pieces on show were
inspired by piece in the collection of the fine arts museums of san francisco and by the rags-to-riches story
of art collector and sugar industrialist alma spreckels. ‘mother-load’ and ‘diadem’ two of pieces are both
made from crystallized rock sugar, paying tribute to spreckels. ‘mother-load’ is a child’s size horse carriage
covered in the sweet stuff, while ‘diadem’ is a sugary chandelier.
