artist amy bennett continues her signature painting style with an idyllic summer setting in her new series
‘at the lake’. bennett first developed her now trademark paintings after building a miniature model of her
hometown. she translated this into the painting series by imagining a series of stories taking place in this
model town. ‘at the lake’ carries this same idea into a lakeside setting complete with campers and cottagers
acting out the stories. the works all features a scene painted as if the viewer is standing far away observing
without being seen. this voyeuristic element is a signature of bennett’s work and lends a surreal and
mysterious feeling to the otherwise idyllic scenes.
