the paper collages by norwegian artist are mokkelbost prove cut and paste is not just child’s play.
mokkelbost started the ion series of paper collages in 2000 as a student. his latest works in the series were
made over a long period of time, some over three years. mokkelbost collects small scraps of paper from
magazines and slowly builds them into large scale artworks. most of the imagery is found in fashion and
lifestyle magazines and categorized to make assembly easy. however instead of simply pasting them down
to create a 2-d image, mokkelbost meticulously chooses pieces to give each piece three dimensions with
their own lighting and colour schemes. the resulting works are seamless and bear next to no trace of their
collage process.
