this series of photographs by the bucharest, romanina based carioca studio reinterprets the imagery of
catholicism. while carioca primarily works on photography for advertsing, icon is one of their personal
projects. the series depicts four individuals adorned in flowing robes and posing like the subjects of
renaissance paintings. the lighting in the photographs gives them a more classical appearance, as does the
set dressing. while every detail is designed to recall the iconography of classical catholicism, the rich
fabrics, vivid photography and contemporary models give the images a subtle twist.
