chris dorosz: the painted room
‘the painted room’ by chris dorosz, 2008 (installation at ICA, san jose)
the painted room was a large scale installation by canadian artist chris dorosz held earlier this year at the
institute of contemporary art in san jose, california. the painted room depicts an entire living room recreated
at full scale using paint drops arranged in a 3d grid. the piece continues dorosz’s body of work made using
suspended drops of paint. this particular piece was made using large drops of acrylic paint hung on
monofilament from a wood support with metal weights to keep everything in place. after discovering
dorosz’s work designboom was curious how these intricate paint drop pieces are made, but dorosz told us
he couldn't reveal much, 'I usually keep my process close to my chest, although I will say that nothing is
done with the aid of a computer.' you can see a video showing a step by step look at how the piece was
installed at the ICA in san jose on dorosz’s website.

Wow I'm impressed! As a chemist this reminds me a lot of inorganic solid phase models of crystals. Zauberer Berlin.
