in barbara horiuchi films she documents sumi ink behavior in water. the young artist creates videos to observe the ink interacting with the water in a controlled setting and at a decelerated speed. this is to examine the materiality of the ink she utilizes before she uses it in her pictorial work. the changing nature of the ink in the water provides a contemplative environment. see the short video here
