caitlin masley: paper installations

‘untitled (black)’, 2009 (floor studio view, berlin)
brooklyn, new york based artist caitlin masley created complex and interwoven installations using the
ubiquitous material foam core. the works combine multiple cut out flat sheets of the paper material,
interlocked together to create large volumes that recall silhouettes of buildings and other forms.
the sculptural pieces have familiar forms, but are also otherworldly at the same time. masley describes
the role of architecture in her work as ‘a model conception of possible worlds that spur on an organic
architecture that "grows" to suit the needs of the landscape and its inhabitants.’ she describes the
installations as ‘an atmosphere where the viewer can feel the evolving texture of structure.’ she explores
similar ideas through paintings and drawings as well.
