‘bijoux’ by ryota aoki

ryota aoki’s new ceramics laboratory vol. 2 exhibition opened earlier this week at ippodo gallery, new york.

‘bijoux’ is a white porcelain work produced from a mold, shaped like 2 joined bowls. each piece is finished by boldly cutting away a part of the original to create a unique work.

aoki infuses the clay with a special glaze he developed. in the kiln the glaze is slowly forced out of the clay to coat the snow white porcelain. bijoux’s secret is its ability to combine an icing flower-like fragility and jewel-like solidity.
