‘cone v2’ by manuel kretzer and hans sach

engineers manuel kretzer and hans sach developed ‘cone v2’  for this year’s voodoo experience music and art festival in new orleans.

the pavilion is an accessible, interactive structure, that was first created for the ‘burning man festival 2007′. standing 8.7 meters tall, it consists of two cones (one inside the other) attached with PVC pipe, where the outside is mounted on the rotating interior.

the design is based on the design principles hyperboloid structures of the russian engineer vladimir shukhov. the intricate lattice structure gives the ‘cone’ the necessary support structure strength and low volume and weight. the segmentation of the ‘cones’ allows easy assembly within a short time and without the use of sophisticated technical equipment.

the installation is on display in the botanical gardens, new orleans where it can be seen until mid- january 2010.  it was organized by KK art projects/ life is art foundation.
