currently at the foam fotografie museum, amsterdam a retrospective on the work of russian
avant-garde artist alexander rodchenko (1891 - 1956) is on show. exhibited are more than
200 vintage photographs which track the development of rodchenko's photographic work
over the course of two decades. included are clever photomontages, documentary reportages
of moscow's streets to architectural studies to intimate portraits of those within his social circle.
through his practice, rodchenko abandoned the 'pure' art in favor of developing a visual language
which spoke to a mass audience, applying himself as a photographer and designer to the production
of posters, magazine and book design, advertisements as well as photojournalism and other forms
of documentary photography.
the exhibition is in collaboration with the moscow house of photography.
