expanded crash is a work based on an evolving compression of matter, created by florian pugnaire and david raffini. a 2CV car undergoes an irreversible transformation pushing the vehicle in on itself. ttriggered by an internal mechanism, the car body comes to life at controlled intervals. this deformation of sheet metal is deployed within a temporality, stretched out to the extreme.

the evocative power of the deformations subjected upon the car harks back to illusions of the living machine, the murderous car, and representations of vehicle accidents in literature (stephen king, J.G. ballard) and cinema, particularly in the films of john carpenter (christine) and david cronenberg (crash).
