switch me

switch me

french designer josselin zaïgouche has created 'switch me!', a device which he thinks will help
reduce energy use. it is his attempt to denounce our society's over-consumption and wasteful habits.
'switch me!' makes you think twice about whether or not you should turn on the light.
it is a metaphoric symbol that helps you feel the pain of the planet, making you reconsider how
you can contribute to a greener environment.

db used to be a nice and friendly place where people posted few messages (the blog was actually almost inexistent) and were able to express interesting statements. the spot is now overcrowded with retarded who don't miss an opportunity to spit on everyone's work. could u at least do it with minimal sense of humor guys? it'd be less painful to read your bs.

It's not the best looking thing, but quite thought provoking nonetheless. If it were more beautiful I think people would comment differently.

soulrider,
thx for helping us to convince people to be more polite.

I think it is neither ugly or beautiful, the appearance itself adds its function.

If you think about how you feel when looking at a mouse trap, what comes to mind?
In the words that come up, you may see the appearance is a personification of those words

sorry, but this is a real no-go!

Where are the blood stains underneath - I think that would add a bit of spice...

...oh dear, I'm a bit slow today - just realised the pun. We (mice) have to think green and not switch the lights on - yeh, well we could all wear bear skins and live in caves...that could save energy too...
Jim   03.04.10
soulrider, nice and friendly is often a euphemism for undemanding...
wheres your sense of humour :-)
goodolddays   03.04.10
Thx to designer!! You make me laugh!!!
C. K.   03.04.10
What´s the point?
Diogo   03.04.10
again, the switch is upside down now it is a sign to not switch off and because the light is on aswell the metaphor doesn't work, sorry,
Larz   03.04.10
I think the more pressing issue is that people forget to turn off the light.

Art piece.

goodolddays, u might be right but nice & friendly ain't about being naïve or simpleton. it's about respect. and keenness 2.
i enjoy actually when it's getting rough on the edges but never without respect. ;-)

andrea, u're more than welcome! db is obviously victim of its growing fame! u are my "by default" homepage for years and i hope it'll stay this way. keep up the great job. my best to the whole db crew.

Brilliant - nice conceptual thinking - simple AND strong... it has a hook, a message and it gets a laugh...and its nice visually too...would work as an album sleeve.
Finlay Cowan   03.06.10
as if we dont turn on the lights will make a difference for the total energy consumption... environmental issues are very catchy nowadays and makes you feel like you've done something for humanity but let's face it, it's just the latest marketing trick, to make you feel usefull by doing nothing...only large industrial companies can really make a difference, but they don't (sorry for my bad english\hope i was understood)
tessayuck   03.06.10
hahahahahaha cool!!!!!!!!! LOL

love iiiit! yeah:)
karpetho   03.07.10
@Larz, that is the standard off position in many countries, such as France (where the artist is from).

The design is simple but interesting and memorable. I like it.
aj   03.07.10
What about a elecrtic shock (not quite the 16amp-thingy...) when switching on? It would work much better, ok, it wouldn't smash your plastic cassis or your wallpaper/stucco and would be quite boring for a designer.
