‘rift’ by andrea myers, 2008 (MDF, latex paint, layered fabric)
using fiber, paper and textiles as her medium of choice, chicago-based artist andrea myers explores the
space between two and three dimensions. her artwork combines elements of painting and sculpture using
scissors over a brush to create painterly forms. as myers describes, ‘I look to painting to inspire color and
form, extracting the formal qualities to reinvent the boundaries of painting.’ her work often plays with
materiality and colour working on a variety of scales. her recent work is constructed by layering
two-dimensional materials, like fabric and wood, repeatedly to create three-dimensional forms.
