james nizam: material arrangements


‘entanglement of chairs’ by james nizam (lightjet print)

vancouver artist james nizam built a series of sculptural assemblages using building materials and
furniture for this series of photographs. the series of images draws on nizam’s background in sculpture
and his new focus on photography. in each piece, a single type of object is arranged into a pile, cluster,
tower or entanglement. the works appear at once familiar to anyone who has been on a building site,
but also somewhat constructed because of their sculptural nature.
