puerto rican artist jesus bubu negron commissioned street cleaners to collect used cigarette butts which
he then turned into a woven carpet. the art project was presented at the sharjah biennale documenting
the street cleaners at work and helpers fabricating the carpet. the carpet itself uses the paper of the
cigarettes unrolled and layered on top of each other. the design utilizes the yellow and white pieces
from the paper to create a pattern similar to a woven textile rug.

It's nice, but it surely has a bad smell of smoke!

not to mention herpes

Beautiful. Inspiring. Free.
Herpes? That's free as well, but perhaps better gotten from another source. You can't get this from dead used paper.
Concentrate on the art, dude.
Smelly, foul, and brilliant, but not infections.

that's cool as hell, but disgusting as hell too... beautiful art, horrible death... and yes, it is incredibly toxic... not from human infection (highly improbable since all the butts are i'm sure quite old... disease, viruses, don't usually live in a airy dry place), but many of the toxic compounds from the cigarettes, are all quite concentrated in that paper... definitely keep kids and animals far away from it, it's quite deadly to them...

but yeah, awesome art... makes me think about the huge bag of garbage i have in my kitchen now... oh gawd, no, i'm not going to make giant beer can art... yes, i drink a lot of beer, but i won't go there... no frat boy art for me... hahaha

Excellent work of many from this puertorican - young artist. Is amazing how he reuses the cigars and the street concept.

interesting how people criticize the dirtiness of the piece mentioning disease and impurities of cigarette and stuff... but forget everyone walks on top of it everyday.. it's everywhere... he just collected the dirt (butts) and made an art work. Well done!

This is excellent! I like it that he turned an abject product into a productive object.

I did something similar to this for a class project, but not nearly as intricate. This is incredibly beautiful.
