‘blame dire ponce’ by bernat cuni
barcelona born, hong kong based designer bernat cuni created these abstract volumes based on
pornography images found online. each form is generated using an algorithm that turns it the
two- dimensional image into a thee-dimensional object. cuni created three series of works using this
concept golden, carnal and fetish. the golden series is depicted in a glossy gold finish, while fetish is
a shiny black reminiscent of leather and carnal is based on skin tones. the series is executed in archival
prints on canvas and as sculptures generated using the volume’s data. each work is titled using an
anagram of the image’s original file name. for example, ‘peak bin best pain’ was actually originally
named ‘pink panties babe’. the full list of anagram is listed on cuni’s website.

Dear designboom!
Pls do not spam with 3D tests that relates from a beginners course for Cinema 4D (take an image and its grey scale for the displacement channel and with a simple click generate a colourful landscape sphere from this data.
Pls ask a 3D guy first not to mess up with your own standards.
All that glitters is not gold, particularly in those fashionable logarithmic "designs" that has to be out of the late 1990s actually!

Thanks for helping with the pornographic societal commentary ... wow man ... what a remarkable and thoughtful topic ... it shows such, oh I don't know power and taste [adjusting my martini olive] I mean, this Cuni fellow is ... SOOO talented, right? This is ridiculous!

if you don't have anything to report, don't report anything. This is beyond worthless.

if you dont have anything nice to say then perhaps say nothing. designboom is filled with pathetic haters, not just on this one, but on every freaking article. sad thing is that it makes designboom suck, because it means that so many assholes are visiting the site. designboom, maybe you should take negative comments off after a while to keep up the positive (negativity with expiration date). the news is all war, crisis, murder, disaster, rape etc. why should there be so much negativity on a design site? i dont care if this guy did something easy or that people dont like it, i'm just happy that people share their work, thats all.
jesus 04.10.10
I agree with jesus. It's a bunch of adolecent comments that provide no insight and diminish the work.
leslie 04.11.10
criticism is healthy, don't bundle everyone together.
posting design work here means hoping for a buzz, nothing more.
The great thing about designboom is that we have our say
If all we can do is say nice things to each other the end is nigh.
Peace.

@ jesus. you cannont be serious about what youre saying. just because the world is fucked up with war and rape and crime doesn't mean that critisism is a bad thing. in fact this "3D art" is just like taking a bad photo and then making it worse with photoshop filters. there are so many people pissed about this work because thats what you see on every second designblog, its just effectshit without a meaning, having a fancy look is nothing. that is why the people HAVE to point on it. sure it is nice to share stuff but if you not ready to do it. then dont do it! this has nothing to do with hating or sth. but if just anybody can mace some fancy lookin shit without ANY meaning, then we all should start making avatar-fanart. this is indeed redicilous!

I've read an interview with Alessandro Mendini (founder of Studio Alchemia) in current BUILD issue.
And he mentions, that in contrast to all magazines of the 70s and 80s he was chief editor at, he can't see any contemporary blog or magazine which points or curates into a certain direction.
A designblog or magazine shouldn't be a vast collection of colourful pix but rather should evoke new trends and tell well researched background storys in all fields of human interaction not merely design.
Obviously this is no fast and efficient way of dealing with the design like most blogs do but it's definitely a right, sustainable strategy in creating a profound and reliable online institution.
With this rubbish designboom is sadly far away from such a vision.
You are curating, man! And it's totally ok only to see 2 good design works a week, but those that matter. Go rather for interesting other fields to report about. Let's make a brave adjustment in what is really relevant to design and this is much more than colourful loud stuff!

I agree that we should accept the positive and negative comments. However, Designboom is not only for the high class designers but also for those love design. As a reader, I do not care the difficulty to create these images and i do not care whether or not this guy needs to have advance level of whatever design software knowledge. I think beauty does not mean empty. What I appreciate the most is, when these images are transferred from the online pornography to the three-dimensional images, after all I can not see the original look but with more emotion feelings and surged in me. I do not agree that these images are rubbish. Whether or not there is any meaning behind is up to your interpretation.
