luz interruptus: packaged vertical garden

image: gustavo sanabria

the madrid based street art team luzinterruptus recently installed packaged vertical garden, a illuminated
vertical garden commenting on the lack of green space in contemporary cities. the project is built with
110 transparent food packaging containers that were packed with leaves and branches found from trees
in the area. in addition to this, self-contained lights were packed to illuminate the packages from within.
‘we wanted to promote the preservation of urban greenery, because if we continue to eradicate it from
public spaces or reducing it to inaccessible vertical faces, the only form of contact with nature will be
in supermarket refrigerators, packaged with expiry dates.’  the vertical garden was installed in a small square in madrid over a period of 3 hours.
