6 foot collaboratory: reliable structures

reliable structures is a series of furniture pieces by 6 foot collaboratory, which require two people to
work together to make the piece fully functional. 6 foot collaboratory is the artistic collaboration between
liz tubergen and caroline woolard. in each piece of the series, users must band together, literally holding
the furniture together with their bodies. the table has no legs and only has cutouts on each end in which
users stand, holding the table up on their hips. if one person moves or walks away, the table will come
crumbling down. the bookshelf uses a similar premise, holding the shelves between the user’s standing
side by side. this series proposes some new concepts for furniture while also questioning our relationship
to our furniture.
