simon smith-robbie: 'creative parking' - think outside the parking box competition shortlisted revealed

'creative parking' by simon smith-robbie from the UK, is one of the 66 shortlisted entries
from our recent designboom competition 'think outside the parking box' in collaboration
with nissan.

to creatively liberate the trials and tribulations of urban parking, the technology of 'creative parking'
allows you to park wherever you like with the simple touch of a button. four robotic spray arms
are housed within the front and rear bumpers of your nissan qashqai and are programmed to paint the
perfect parking bay around your vehicle.

one button located on the nissan qashqai dashboard allows you to activate the 'creative parking' process

if this is creative we're all doomed....
/R   11.02.09
Isn't this "slightly" illegal?
Niki   11.02.09
HAHAHA! i need one of these!
markitect   11.02.09
This must bu invented by an Argentinean, as here we park at any place, not caring about the other. It would be a justification for the police when they try to make a parking ticket... "oh, I'm parked in the parking box..." duh'
gbx   11.02.09
this makes it to designboom? its not even provoking, its just a stupid idea.
Ben   11.02.09
ok creative but for what? expend gas and paint, can we put it bbq in the front to prepare burguers too?
dub34   11.02.09
is this a joke? funny
mojtaba   11.02.09
weird... i dont blame the designer, but what exactly did the jury have for breakfast?
horrible haridas   11.02.09
i like it, creative idea but it made no sense?? so ??
azad   11.02.09
you need everything to be functional?, is a fun idea!, is utopian and functional for a commercial. the contest was thinking differently
markus   11.02.09
The potential for advertising purposes are quite cool, obviously it's not something to take literally. The competition was about promoting the car, right?!
Sue   11.02.09
well -have a question - When full list of finalist and winners will be revealed?
algini   11.03.09
cool idea. its totaly in the spirit of the competition. FUN, CONCETUAL and OUT OF THE BOX... Congrats jury!!!
carioca   11.03.09
Finaly a competition that let's us come out of the creative box. I know it's hard to be traveling criatively in the maionaise but it's refreshing to be able to let it go... it's easy for me speak, i am SHORTLISTED... Yeah...
copacabana   11.03.09
foam rubber stamp and white ink pad would save about 00 in finicky mecha-magic-arms.
Mike   11.03.09
Re markus: No not everything has to be functional, Creativity is needed for the world to move forward, but it should at least make the world a better place, not the other way around.
Joe   11.03.09
This is a very 'green' idea, by the way how many laws do i break at once when i park my car?
Harry   11.03.09
stupid idea/ sorry/
if you make parking where you whant///it is Anarchy for the city
d   11.03.09
This idea would be more functional if the designer used four legs instead of arms to park the vehicle in a tight and narrow spaces. That would turn a car into a parkbot.
km   11.03.09
HILARIOUS.

this just made my morning
hober   11.03.09
.... roight, umm, yeah,, why not ....ummmm...funny though
azhar   11.03.09
Seems like alot of you with boring/dull/dry/negative comments are stuck in the box for eternity (and obviously did not get shortlisted). This solution is excellent, perfectly pitched for a competition like this and made me smile. Wit and joy do have a valid place in design and creativity. Well done to creators and jury.
jonboi   11.04.09
this is naiv crazy. what's everybody thinking about
at   11.04.09
I've thought this when reading the comments on articles on here before and i'm sure it can't just be me so i think it's about time someone just said it. You don't get design so don't bore people who do with your pointless comments. This is great by the way, I can see the tv advert already
fl   11.04.09
Wonder where the bad and good comments geografically come from... Designboom can you in some way track them?... there are design collectives spreaded out there that are so squared that hardly can thing beyond the "form follows function"....
me   11.04.09
Interesting! What is your guess? Where do the "bad" comments come from? You probably should have an opinion when you ask.
Niki   11.05.09
ur comment reli justify how much u no design, good job. Be abit more mature and accept critz, goods and bads n learn from it. Its a neat idea here, i like it, just needs polish. The end.
