SAIC leaf concept

SAIC leaf concept

the shanghai automotive industry corporation (SIAC) will be showcasing the new leaf concept car at the
biejing auto show that has better than zero emissions. the concept vehicle is one of the first to boast better
than zero emissions, literally producing more energy than it needs. the car is powered by solar, wind and
other alternative renewable energy sources. the car is inspired by the natural process of photosynthesis
and will actually absorb carbon dioxide from the air. the name leaf is derived from the car’s roof shape
which is covered in photovoltaic cells that much like a leaf, can be adjusted to maximize the solar
absorbing properties. the car also draws wind energy through four turbines located on each of the car’s
wheels. to absorb carbon dioxide the body of the car is made from a metal-organic framework, which
turns carbon dioxide and water into energy and oxygen.

nice idea, but has to be one of the ugliest vehicles iv EVER seen, reminds me of the Flintstones car on acid..lol and those fans on the wheels are just hilarious.. surely they could come up with something that looks attractive instead of the barbie eco car!!...again ewww.

The design is quiet nice except for the leaf roof. What is missing is a larger windshield to give it a more aerodynamic shape.

it's nice to see the shapes slowly (but damn slowly) move away from the batmobile-tiger-aircraft approach. the car is overall ugly but it's relieving to see it doesn't look like a car.

i personally would take all people in car design put them on one big ship pack them with playstations and fat porn models send them for a long long trip in the ocean, they would live happily ever after and we would redesign the car industry from the basics in the meanwhile.

i think it would look nice enough if it could do what it claims to do. but come on...what a joke. had enough of designers who understand nothing of physics and reality.

Love it. Want it. I think it's beautiful in form and in function and I'm not afraid to say so.
It does need a windshield, but it is a concept, after all.
Exxtremitie   04.28.10
I'm with Liam. Even as a concept, one needs more than the provided info to ascertain how it will produce more energy than it uses. Design-wise, it has a funky beach buggy look to it. As shown, the elements would play a large part whilst driving and CD would not be overly low.
