the discreet window

the discreet window

‘the discreet window’ is a set of window blinds by designers ishac bertran and gizem boyacioglu that
doubles as an ambient display. the blinds were designed to visually represent a person’s work activity in
a home-office environment. the more the user works, the less light comes through the window. the user
operates the blinds by sliding the small spheres on the control cords around. the blinds have four modes:
open, half-open, closed and graph, which allows users to display digital information about their work on
the blinds. the concept aims to offer a self-improvement tool that provides an overview of working routines in a non-intrusive manner.

The blind in its "closed" position seems awfully open. I think the most important part of designing a functional piece is that it does indeed function WELL. Overall
I love the design and concept yet would like to see a blind that offers more privacy if needed.
