sony eye-tracking glasses
sony eye-tracking glasses

sony computer science laboratories collaborated with the university of tokyo to develop a prototype
design for eye-tracking glasses. the device would monitor the user’s eye movement and match this to
information to a front-facing camera. the small size of the device allows it to be easily attached to a pair
of glasses. the camera facing the user’s eye uses embedded LED lamps to bounce light off the eye,
allowing sensors to track the eye’s position. the front-facing camera as additional utility since it can
distinguish written words. sony hopes to on day commercialize the device embedded directly into eye
glasses.

Eye tracking is pretty cool, I can see it being very useful in conjunction with some kind of gesture and voice tracking system to control a big information system in real time by a single person.
Unfortunately, this is SONY bring in the tech, and you can just bet it will be laden with some anti-consumer element, or perhaps they will remove some feature once you've paid for it.
I would rather not have this tech than have SONY in the marketplace.

PS3 Owner 06.07.10
Don't stress PS3Owner! the powers of good play with this technology too. For example www.eyewriter.org has developed some eye tracking tech too. Not as slim-line as Sonys but they use it to interersting effect. I think all their stuff is open source too.
