cardboard mechanics
cardboard mechanics

we typically associate mechanics with heavy metals, but four students at the utrecht school of art and
technology decided to take a different approach and built a complex machine using cardboard.
saskia freeke, fin kingma, davy jacobs and sonja van vuure worked out a series of small mechanical
interactions ranging from levers and gears, to a spinning display made using only cardboard. the piece
is propelled by a small motor and each section is linked to the next, enabling all the elements to be in
motion at once.
