olars is an interactive electronic toy by designers lars marcus vedeler and ola vågsholm. the project was
inspired by karl sims' evolved virtual creatures and prepared at the oslo school of architecture and design.
the project consists of a variety of colourful components that link together in different formations.
however the project is more than a set of simple building blocks, each component has a different
mechanical behaviour and can be fully animated. the set has thousands of movement options resulting
in both familiar and strange motion patterns. the core pieces of olars make use of an arduino
duemilanove board and two sets of a servo and switch.

IT'S SUPER NICE!
maybe add some more half spherical wobbly parts....
let it wobble like a gumboc or a "steh-auf-maennchen"
...I'd buy one!

is not very similar to kinematics? TEI 2010 : Constructing with Movement: Kinematics

I like different elements - but what is the point of olars? it does not extend possibilities of motion with different combinations or even look good - what is there to like? Certainly not enough to engage children
