iphone dslr prototype

not satisfied with the tiny camera lens on his iphone, jeremey salvador decided he wanted to use the lenses
from his digital slr. to make these professional lenses work on the mobile phone, salvador developed
a customized mounting system made from anodized billet aluminum. the iphone sits inside the mount
and the lenses attach on the front. the mount has two handle grips on each side for smooth movements
and can also be mounted on a tripod. so far the system only allows users to use canon ef lenses, but with
an adapter the system should be able to use almost any lens. the design takes the iphone’s 5mp camera with
HD video capability to a new level create impressive still photos and video as you will see below.

Not a true SLR. Looks ok, the DOF was extremely shallow, and there was some vignetting in the corners. Looks like a nice piece of work, but you are really better off just shooting a real SLR body.
Eric   07.17.10
Certainly cute; but, as Eric says, not really a good choice if the real concern is to take better photographs.

nice job missing the entire point, haters. does your DSLR have iMovie on it so you can start editing video on your camera then upload it to you tube without a computer? oh. this one does.
sean   07.21.10
@Sean, so far the only hate expressed here has been yours.

It isn't clear that what you declare to be “the entire point” is the point at all, except for those who, like you, choose to make it *their* point.

And to me it seems an odd one. The user has to have a second device either way. One uses a higher-quality camera and a computer, or one uses the iPhone and this adapter, which itself hardly of negligible size.
Daniel   07.24.10
@everyone.
the point is that the iphone is really fucking cool. No serious filmmaker or photographer will replace and SLR with an Iphone. The point of this entire DIY project is to show the limits or rather the possibilities of the new iphone. I agree with @Sean. You guys are nitpicking.
diane   07.25.10
@diane, uhm, Eric calls it “a nice piece of work” and I say that it's “[c]ertainly cute”, but then you and Sean have a fit that we also note that it really doesn't actually transform the iPhone into a real or practical DSLR camera. (Had it been represented more accurately in the first place, then we could simply have embraced its cleverness.)

It's not that Eric or I are nitpicking or miss the point. And you don't improve the reception of this adapter by nasty pretense that we have.
