tinker london: hop

tinker london: hop

the london design agency tinker created this interactive digital game based on the classic school yard
game hopscotch. hop was created for the kinetica art fair and set out to invite the viewers to become
kinetic objects. the installation consists of a vertical light display that reflects and responds to play
happening on a chalked-out hopscotch game on the ground. users play the game as usual and can
watch as their actions on the ground are translated onto the colourful display.

I think some articles should be double checked before they published online and stop waisting our time...

I agree with charles andrew. This is not exciting design...

for christ's sake, if you want to play hopscotch get some chalk and a bit of blacktop. "invite the viewers to become
kinetic objects" sorry but p...s off.

Hi all,
Thanks for your feedback, sorry you didn't find it that impressive. What was interesting to us is that people had an expectation about what would happen in that context which was a Kinetic-based event where everything moved, but you couldn't touch anything. We kindof wanted to break that model a bit. It was simple but surprised people a lot. They also often looked around for a camera, assuming that this is how it worked, which wasn't what was being used.

i would like to play and I am sure variants of this would be really exciting... keep tinkering guys... I am sure the same people will look at it in a different perspective after some time...

To Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino

I thought this wasn't exciting because it seemed like an idea that has been used before like that installation at the Cooper Hewitt that had lights that moved along with people's movement. I would say the idea is kind of trite.

However, I do think this projects has great possibilities to become something fun! You could develop a mat that could include many games from hopscotch to twister, etc. and then you could play all of this games at home when it is raining outside!
