kinetic memory triggers is a series of five anthropomorphic kinetic sculptures designed by nobu
nakaguchi. each sculpture represents a different feeling, acted out through movement, materiality
and sound. the feelings are controlling, clumsy, attention, seeking and nurturing. the concept behind
the design is to demonstrate the ability for inanimate objects to come to life, acting receptive and
responsive to people. nakaguchi explains ‘by mapping anthropomorphic behaviors onto inanimate
objects, we can create ‘beings’ perceived as alive. we take pleasure and comfort in identifying
human qualities to develop a more meaningful connection.’ the sculpture are controlled by
customized electronics including bi-polar stepper motors to power the movements.
