‘multi-touch light table’

for his senior degree project at kansas city art institute, gerg kaufman from san francisco presented a touch screen interface for DJs called the ‘multi touch light table’. using the classic turntable as a reference, the graphic interface allows users to control various parameters of music using different hand gestures.

records are represented as amoeba like shapes, whereby hand motions such as tapping, sliding and turning can result in these respective functions: changing the tempo of the song, activating volume levels and  moving to a different mark of the track.

kaufman’s multi-touch tap rythm technology also means that songs can be synced and their levels changed through a sliding bar. as each DJ has a different method of playing music, each graphic shape is unique to the user.
