a conversion machine capable of turning plastics back into oil was created by akinori ito,
ceo and founder of japanese company blest. for every 1kg of plastic, 1 liter of oil can be
harvested which is then later reapplied to make gasoline, diesel and kerosene. aside from
the obvious advantage of this process in targeting issues of plastic recycling, the machine
also does not generate any carbon dioxide when put into application.

It's a good way to have back oil even though the process requires energy (heating over 300 °C) to be performed. My other concern is about the combustion's products of plastics. I'd like to know if it's economically competitive.

How much energy is needed to create the heat that melts the plastic? The principle is great and simple - surely large municiple garbage companies could use this - especially the "grüne punkt" countries.
Dr. Design 08.24.10
This could be useful, hopefully only in the short term. The economics of turning solid into fluid, when it could be recycled as a solid, I would hope would be more practical. However, for non-recyclable plastics this would be a useful method of disposing d;-)

really really a great idea.... its one of the most intresting ideas i have seen, but mi question is , what stays in the machine before it turs the gas in oil?
NestorEnBloke 08.24.10
I would like to know where one can buy one of this. Also, how much elect. is needed per kilo? what will be done with the rest plastic? can this become a small home business?
ashley Helmich 08.24.10
No electricity is needed if the process uses mirrors and sunlight to heat the mixture, just like the molten salt driven steam turbines that use the same to generate the heat.
Karl Tricamo 08.24.10
An English chap developed a similar machine 10 years ago that turned plastic bags into oil but he couldn't get funding to build it on a large scale. The Japanese seem to be much more willing to invest in technologies than the UK so i really hope his vision is properly realised.
Ben London 08.24.10
They ought to put a large plastic to oil machine inside of a foundry, put that wasted heat to use
