norster 600r
norster 600r

the norster 600r is a finnish designed mid engine car that has a compact size that actually puts it into the category of
a heavy quad. the car is a throwback to old english cars such as austin-healey’s sprite. the unique styling is perhaps
one of the car’s most unusual features, especially with the vertical opening doors. the car has a 580cc two-cylinder
engine with only 20 horsepower and 36.8 pound-feet of torque. while this limits the car’s driving at high speeds,
it allows the engine to achieve around 50 miles to one gallon of gas.

I wouldn't have considered this an argument for a kit-car moped however you made it one by saying it, ok.
So in real world units thats about 5litres per 100km, not too impressive……thats a little more than my 5 seated skoda fabia station wagon, with doubel the weight and a little less fuel it can run a smooth 170km/h on german autobahn…if you make it retro design make it real retro, no cheap seats and weird dashboards

If one is to imitate an established and celebrated design, shouldn't the new version be an improvement?

I don't know if the vehicle would be allowed on the road. Can't see any safety features that our PC world dictates should be in new cars. The doors would have been better left as part of the body to maintain rigidity, though the vehicle looks to be pretty flimsy. Aerodynamically wouldn't have a low CD (coefficient of drag) hence the pretty poor mileage. A cartoon version of the AH Sprite and perhaps should have been left in a comic book. Enough d'-)

projects like this one take the BOOM out of designboom.
It doesn't belong here and that's why it's getting so much disapproval. it would probably get much better comments on other blogs...dedicated to backyard projects or something like that
