lucas maassen: singing chair

the chair is a perhaps one of the most frequently designed objects, but lucas maassen’s chair does more than explore form
and material, it sings. the singing chair is the most recently design by the dutch designer. crafted from wood the chair has
an embedded digital display that shows a pair of lips that talks, sings and pretty much does anything you ask it to.
the chair performs, singing songs in a deep crooning style. the chair is fully interactive, responding to its environment
like a person would.

it also makes blowjob?

we can't really tell if it does BJ's, but it sucks - that's for sure.
perhaps the guy (lucas maassen) should try to bake some bread instead of "designing cool garbage". or work on a gas station...

oh.. hold on. this guy exhibited in MoMa..! and worked with Droog.. and his work is yet so in-consequent it hurts.
these are no design news. these are wankers news.

Seeing shite like this in the design section irritates me. Just cos massen has chosen to combine the mouth of some smart ass American with a chair does not mean it has any function. Call me old fashioned but i believe design should have a clear function. And i mean something more than annoying the hell out of people.

It has a function; you can sit on it

... and it sings

I'm sick of bitter 'designers' dictating what constitutes design and what doesn't. I'm not that impressed by this chair, but to question its right to exist is just absurd. These imaginary, subjective parameters that all design must conform to, are the illegitimate construct of a narrow, control-freak mindset.
