bend desk
bend desk

bend desk is a prototype interactive display that takes the digital workspace from the screen to the desktop by the media
computing group at RWTH aachen university. while a typical work setup combines a flat desktop with a vertical computer
screen, bend desk combines the two into one single unit. bend desk is a vision for a future workspace that allows
continuous interaction between both areas. using multi-touch technology, the display curves from a horizontal plane to
a vertical plane. this workspace can be used to display digital content and interact with it directly using multi-touch
gestures and manipulation.

Another technology we'll laugh about in 10 years' time. Actually, I'm laughing about it now! HA HA!

it'd be impressive if this could copy/scan straight from the bottom plane and project on the vertical for text editing. eliminating the need for a copier/scanner in the house would be one more perk and make what i assume will be an enormous price tag a little more understandable.
hopeful handyman 12.11.10
hopefully with this idea computer can recognize human gestures, this should make our communication with them more natural.

awesome design!
katie keller 12.13.10
Judging by the pictures I would expect it to consume too much power. What is the power consumption? Is it really worth it, to hire designers (for example) and have them sitting on so much hardware? Wouldn't a normal desktop do the same function (without the touch interface).
u2okn 12.15.10
Eh.. have you ever looked at the typical specs of a computer for a designer or similar? It's not really a "normal" desktop, not the places where I've been at least ;) Besides, the cost of hardware is really tiny compared to the other costs of pretty much any employee over the year.
