CES 2011: ford focus electric

one of the most anticipated presentations at this year's CES was the introduction of ford's 2012 focus electric.
the zero CO2 emissions, gasoline-free version of the car company's popular compact car is a
five-door hatchback that leverages ford's global C-car platform shared by the existing gasoline -
and diesel-powered focus models.

the electric charging port is located between the driver's door and the front wheel

the car is powered by a 23 kwh high-voltage, lightweight lithium-ion battery system,
offering a miles-per-gallon equivalent that is competitive with other battery electric vehicles.
the charge the focus electric's high-voltage, lithium-ion batteries more quickly,
an optional 240-volt charging station can be installed, providing a full charge in approximately 3 to 4 hours.
it is also compatible with a standard 120-volt convenience cord, allowing one to charge
the batteries within the comfort of your won garage, using a standard 120-volt household outlet.

an illuminated charging port indicates when the car is fully charged

the electric vehicle has an illuminated charging port so you will always know when your car is
fully charged and ready to go. when you plug the connector cord into the focus electric's charge port -
located between the driver's door and front wheel well - it activates light rings around the port
to indicated that it is connected. when the rings are flashing, this indicates that a charge in in progress.
when all rings are solidly lit, the charge is complete.

the seats are eco friendly. the standard innovative earth-friendly cloth seat fabric of the car
is made from 100 percent post-industrial materials - polyester fibers that would have otherwise
ended up in landfills. the cushions use a bio-based polyurethane foam derived from the oils
of various plant seeds such as soy beans.

SYNC® with myford touch™technology in the focus electric gives drivers the same connectivity -
to your music, navigation and favorite devices - that you benefit from in other ford vehicles,
while offering a certain level of customization. using five-way buttons located on the steering wheel,
you can customize your view in the two 4.2-inch LCD instrument cluster screens to indicate
your battery charge status, allowing you to keep track of how you drive, so you can make adjustments
to maximize your range and efficiency etc.

brake coach feature is displayed on the vehicle's customizable screens

the car's brake coach feature is found in the instrument cluster screen, helping the driver optimize
the use of the car's regenerative brakes. the screen displays the amount of energy captured
each time you stop.

myfordtouch™ with unique EV content

on the dash the myford touch™ emotive display is an instrument cluster that provides real-time information,
helping you get the most efficiency from your focus electric. it provides a visual of blue butterflies
on the right cluster screen which represent the surplus range beyond the point of the next charging station.
the visual draws on the concept of the 'butterfly effect' in which a small change can have a huge impact.
reinforcing this message, at the end of each trip in the vehicle, the display shows information such as
energy consumed vs. the amount of gasoline saved by driving electric.

so, how many kilometers can this car go in one full charge?
merakli   01.10.11
Highest form of flattery: past three years everyone's aped Ford's body stylings, now Ford's aping Tesla's Model S. I love you, Silicon Valley.

Yes, but where is the electricity coming from? If its coal fired power stations how does this help the environment?
potsrme   01.11.11
I don't see how the Focus electric looks anything like the Model S http://www.sacarfan.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/4tesla-model-s.jpg front on and especially in this colour it with the grille it bears a lil resemblance to an Aston Martin Rapide.

Its not the car or users fault if the power station is coal fuled which the vast majority aren't.
