the ‘jaguar F-type’ in camouflaged skin

just announced at the new york auto show is the ‘jaguar F-type’, the canvas-roofed convertible successor to the ‘E-type’ coupe last produced in 1975. with a completely aluminum chassis, the two-seater model is based on the ‘C-X16’ concept car shown at frankfurt motor show 2011.

while jaguar has yet to release detailed specs on the sportscar, the base engine is suspected to be a 3.0-litre supercharged V6, with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, with diverse petrol engines available. the estimated top speed is over 180mph (289 km/hr), attaining 60mph (100 km/hr) from stopped position in under five seconds.

the ‘F-type’ production model will be exhibited later this year, expected to be on sale in 2013.
