pininfarina personal transit system

developed by italian design agency pininfarina in collaboration with korean urban mobility company vectus, ‘personal rapid transit’ (‘PRT’) is a concept for urban public transport. the on-demand service is based on a system of small driverless vehicles, which carries passengers directly to their requested stop.

the concept design by pininfarina utilizes a lightweight carbon fibre frame in a customizable choice of colours. vectus already produces the technology required for implementation of such a system– which in a modified form is utilized in large airports– and the first application of pininfarina ‘PRT’ is planned for the nature reserve of the bay of suncheon in south korea, in 2013. concept imagery about the project, as well as a 1:18 scale model, are on exhibition as part of pininfarina’s design showcase ‘pininfarina in london‘, through july 15th, 2012.
