samsung lodges patent for phone with folding keyboard

over the years there has been some interesting and strange designs for mobile phone keyboards. the latest is this...



a patent application has turned up from samsung at the USTPO (united states patent and trademark office)
showing an image that samsung is trying to patent a weird folding keyboard.
the keyboard pops out of the sides of the phone like wings for typing.

Very interesting, BUT...........
I don't see how thats even possible to utilize. Way too thin and very difficult to handle...easily breakable. If you type with your thumb, what do you hold on to? Drop it and your finished

The actual phone doesn't even look like a Samsung that i've seen, could be wrong tho...I'd like to know the patent # to get a better look...hmmm.

@AJ: if it is Samsung i don't think it will be difficult to handle or easily breakable, imho Samsung doesn't produce that kind of things.

I agree about the durability and usabilty of this design. It looks flimsy and the buttons next to the phone's main body look to be too close to touch with a normal finger. If the keyboards were flush to the front of the phone, I think it would be more usable. Samsung is probably just trying to patent all the possible keyboard options they can to lock out the competition whether they use them or not.
