vivien muller: orkys and photonsynthesis

photonsynthesis designed by vivien muller, is a usb solar-cell tree in which you can recharge
your cellphone and camera. 54 tiny photovoltaic panels store energy in a battery during the day,
allowing you to recharge your stuff when necessary. all the necessary wires and plugs are hidden
below an electronic bonsai tray. the tree is made from several modules which fit together by a
3.5 jack connector. these pieces can rotate apart individual and produce an endless number
of different shapes.

orkys is another design by muller which utilizes solar power. an orchid captures energy in its
'leaves' to light its flowers. the petals are adjustable to vary the light intensity and the sheets are
flexible photovoltaic cells.

It is good direction of the thinking - synthesis of the semiotic interaction of the nature and mobile devices. Beauty in itself.

Very nice
Is the bonzai in production?
or just concept?
Is there already a working prototype?
Nami   08.04.09
PhotonSynthesis will be available at the end of the year.

Sorry, but this looks really cheapish to me...besides, how much energy is needed to produce these things? I guess I'd have to recharge my iPhone for the next decades to get this back.
And I'm afraid that the design will look old very quickly, it is not timeless at all - I fear that people will throw it away too fast which makes its concept pretty senseless in my opinion.

Im Sorry Vivien i Didnt know that trees and Orchids could go out of style!? They also look anything but cheapish!! I think its a wonderful design idea that would do very well if sold in stores because it takes timeless shapes like a tree or an orchid. If it looked any diffrent it would lose its style over time.. kinda like your iPhone. Ever heard of the Pre?
