the japanese company sohgo security services co ltd is set to release an autonomous robot designed for
serving interactive advertising and services. the an9-pr features a large 19-inch touch screen on its front,
two 12-inch screens on its back and a scrolling bulletin board on its top. the robot is designed for use in
shopping malls and other public venues where is can display advertising, guide visitors and provide
information. the robot recognizes people through a camera on its top and sophisticated facial recognition
software. it also boasts a felica reader writer which can send and receive shop information and coupons to
mobile phones. it also doubles as a surveillance tool, since it can send photos and video of its surroundings.
the an9-pr costs around110,000 USD, but users have to pay 3.9 million for five years of maintenance.
the first version will debut at the hamamatsu science museum in march 2010.
