solar roof tiles

solar roof tiles

the american company srs energy has taken the idea of solar panels design for rooftop to a whole new level
by integrating them right into roof tiles. rather than using flat panels installed over traditional roofing
materials, srs energy has developed solar panel roofing tiles that integrate right into the roof. the unique
design allows the tiles to blend right into the roof, making themselves almost invisible. the tiles are made
from a lightweight recyclable plastic that is molded together with a flexible solar cell. while the flexible
panel design gathers less energy, it actually reacts to a broader spectrum of light. the tiles are also linked
together so that they can operate even if one stops working.

Fantastic idea. You make this much easier to understand than the manufacturer's web site does. I'm going to research it more (for pricing info) and blog about it.

new roof should last 25 years, most solar panels last 6 years. so i will need a new roof after just 6 years. genius..!

Solar panels last 20+ years on average, where did you get the idea they only last for 6? That's completely wrong.

Old fashioned solar panels looked like an appendix over the house. This probably spooked away some potential customers but the solar tiles blend with the traditional conception of architecture. So, the tiles could be of the taste of a larger market and that's a good thing.

nice concept. specially for warm areas like South East Asia and Africa

This is rather old news. There were many patents issued on this matter over the last twenty years: see Espacenet. A major German tile manufacturer offered similar products commercially but stopped recently producing them. This is no rocket science breakthrough ... on the contrary: Installing flat PV-panels yields much more electricity.

great if v can get them in the market!
articles and debates have been going on for some time on this product.
solar roof tiles r best suited for tropical climtes , but nothing of this sort is available. such tiles can popularise
the practice of using solar power thr' parts of buildings.
also v can make solar cladding tiles.
